The match on Holy Saturday – the last before the National League B table is split – failed to add any new points to FC Lugano Femminile’s tally, as they were forced to swallow a rather bitter pill at the Zelgli ground in Schlieren.
The clash between the Zurich and Ticino sides proved extremely evenly matched throughout. Whilst the home side attempted to control the game through greater possession, the Bianconere maintained the discipline required to counter every possible opposition attack.
With a goalless draw now looking all but certain from many angles, the Zurich side found the spark to secure all three points at the start of second-half stoppage time. The moment stemmed from a lapse in concentration that caught the Lugano defence off guard.
A cross from the wing was met with a header in the penalty area. Anuja Sedman, who had come on as the home side’s final substitute around ten minutes earlier, saw the ball drop and struck it on the volley, managing to slot it into the corner for the winning goal. Had the visitors paid a little more attention to the loose ball, the home side’s goal might have been avoided.
Having finished the first half of the season in eighth place on 28 points, FC Lugano Femminile now await the fixture list for the remainder of the championship, which will be released at the start of next week. The next fixture will take place on the weekend of 25–26 April 2026.
‘We played in an organised manner and the match was quietly heading towards a goalless draw. There were few real thrills and it was a very hard-fought contest, especially in the middle of the pitch. It was the classic match decided by a single moment. It’s a shame, because it was practically over. Then, in the first minute of stoppage time, there was nothing we could do,” said the Bianconeri women’s coach Andrea Antonelli at the end of the ninety minutes on the banks of the Limmat.
