BITTER DRAW FOR THE BIANCONERI GIRLS

May 3, 2026

FC Lugano Women began their short play-out tournament with a goalless draw away at Wädenswil in Zurich.

The Bianconeri put in an excellent performance in every respect, creating numerous chances but failing to convert them. What was missing, therefore, was that final touch in front of goal. In defence and in midfield, the team were very compact, allowing their opponents just a single chance. A crucial defensive effort denied the home side, who are fighting to retain their place in the division, the joy of scoring.

The point earned by the Lugano players takes their tally to 29 points. Now, preparations will begin for the next fixture on the calendar, scheduled for Saturday 9 May 2026 at 6.30 pm against bottom-of-the-table Solothurn, in a clash between a team (the Ticino side) already safe and another (the Solothurn side) already certain of relegation. The match is scheduled to take place at the Al Maglio Sports Centre in Canobbio.

At the end of the match, manager Andrea Antonelli commented on the players’ performance as follows: ‘The girls’ attitude was excellent. We knew we were facing a team fighting to stay in Lega Nazionale B. The Tigurine players took to the pitch with the right aggression, the right spirit and a certain level of athleticism. We were ready for the challenge, even though it wasn’t easy to compete against them. Despite not scoring, our play in and out of possession was good. Finally, the good news is the full return of Antonella Albertini. She played the full ninety minutes and the concerns raised during the match against Yverdon have completely subsided.”
