Lugano v Young Boys: a top-of-the-table clash

September 10, 2026

The Brack Super League resumes at the AIL Arena with a clash between the top two teams in the table. On Saturday 12 September at 7.00 pm, FC Lugano host BSC Young Boys on matchday 8 of the league, in a clash between the only two teams still unbeaten: the bianconeri top the table with 18 points and a perfect record, whilst the Bernese side sit in second place on 15 points.

SIX CONSECUTIVEWINS
Six matches, six wins. FC Lugano go into the match on the back of a perfect record in the Brack Super League, having scored 17 goals and conceded just four. Their latest victory came on Sunday at St. Jakob-Park, where Mattia Croci-Torti’s side came from behind to beat Basel 3–1. This victory allowed the Bianconeri to consolidate their lead at the top of the table, extending their advantage over Young Boys to three points whilst still having a game in hand.

The win in Basel extended a run that began in their opening match against Vaduz and continued against Grasshopper, Zurich, Sion and Servette. It has been a start to the season in which Lugano have found various ways to secure the three points, combining consistent attacking play with defensive solidity which, after six matches played, is the best record in the league.

YOUNG BOYS, THE BEST ATTACK
They will face a side that has yet to suffer a defeat this season. Gerardo Seoane’s Young Boys have recorded four wins and three draws in their first seven matches, scoring 26 goals: no other team has scored more in this Brack Super League. However, the Bern-based side have conceded 14 goals in a start to the season characterised by matches that have often been high-scoring.
Following victories against Sion, Thun and Vaduz and a draw at Lausanne, YB have drawn 3–3 with Basel, won 4–2 away at Zurich and drawn 3–3 again at the Wankdorf against Lucerne in their last three matches.

THE NINTH EDITION OF THE GREEN MATCH
The match against Young Boys will also coincide with the ninth edition of the Green Match, the charity event that has linked FC Lugano with the Greenhope Foundation for years and which, for the first time, will take place at the AIL Arena.

As is tradition, the bianconeri will take to the pitch in a special green kit created for the occasion. The shirts will subsequently be auctioned off, with all proceeds going towards supporting Greenhope’s charitable projects.

LAST SEASON’S
RECORD
The four encounters in the 2025/26 Brack Super League tell a story that favours the bianconeri. Following Young Boys’ 3–1 win at the Wankdorf in the season’s opening fixture, Lugano went on to secure two wins and a draw in the next three matches.

On Saturday, it’s back to square one, in a new setting and with a league table that lends further significance to the fixture. First against second, best defence against best attack: everything is set at the AIL Arena for the Green Match 2026, one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures of the early season.
