NARROW KNOCKOUT AT STADE DE GENÈVE

October 26, 2025

FC Lugano suffered a narrow defeat in their away match in Geneva. At the Stade de Genève, the Bianconeri lost 2-1 to Servette FC at the end of a closely contested match, in which Croci-Torti’s side demonstrated resilience and character despite the result.

Right from the start, Lugano found themselves chasing the game. After just eleven minutes, Florian Ayé put Servette ahead with a header from a corner, capitalising on a defensive lapse in the Bianconeri’s box. Croci-Torti’s side responded with character: in the 18th minute, Papadopoulos came close to equalising, but his header from a corner was cleared by a defender.

As the minutes ticked by, the intensity and quality of Lugano’s play grew, as they pushed forward and put the home side under pressure. Dos Santos tried to trouble Mall with a left-footed shot from distance, but the Granata goalkeeper responded with a superb save. The Bianconeri’s push was rewarded in the 37th minute when Anto Grgić, from a free-kick on the edge of the box, curled the ball into the top corner to make it 1-1 with a superb strike. Two goals from set-pieces, one for each side, brought a balanced and hard-fought first half to a close.

In the second half, Lugano maintained control of possession and tried to build patiently, whilst Servette relied mainly on counter-attacks. Chances, however, were few and far between: in the 62nd minute, Grgić tried his luck again with a shot from outside the box, then in the 78th minute Belhadj had a glorious opportunity and came close to taking the lead with a right-footed effort in the box that went just wide after a scramble.

Just as the Bianconeri were at their best, however, came a cold shower: in the 82nd minute, Srdanovic broke down the right and delivered a low cross to the near post, where Ayé beat everyone to it and scored his second goal of the match to make it 2-1.

In the closing stages, Lugano threw everything forward in search of an equaliser, but were unable to break through Servette’s defence. After three consecutive wins, the Bianconeri’s winning streak thus came to an end; they will have an immediate chance to bounce back on Thursday 30 October at Cornaredo in the midweek fixture against Lucerne.
