FC Lugano and COPA present the 1951 Retro Jersey, a special commemorative collaboration that pays tribute to the club’s history and its 75 years at Cornaredo. This is not a match shirt, but a product designed for everyday wear, in which every detail faithfully recreates the official kit from the 1951/52 season: from the white button-down collar and long sleeves to the authentic City of Lugano logo, reproduced without any reinterpretations or modernisations, to restore the shirt to its most faithful and recognisable form.
The partnership with COPA fits perfectly into this vision. Founded in 1998 in the Netherlands, the company has become an international benchmark for garments and collections inspired by the history of football, with a range strongly linked to retro aesthetics and the tradition of cotton football shirts. Together with the Dutch company, FC Lugano has created a shirt with strong symbolic value, designed to celebrate a key chapter in the Bianconeri’s history.
One of the most significant elements of the launch campaign is also the inclusion, among the models chosen for the official photoshoot, of Fabio Poma, son of Riccardo “Ciacio” Poma, a bianconero player in the 1950s and scorer of the very first goal ever scored at Cornaredo on 12 August 1951 in a friendly match against Bellinzona’s reserves. His inclusion adds further depth to a shirt already rich in meaning, capable of uniting sporting heritage, family ties and the Club’s identity.
Thus, having kicked off the 2025/26 season with a tribute to the 1951 match shirts, FC Lugano has, in a sense, come full circle with a collaboration that brings everything back to where it all began. With just a few weeks to go before Cornaredo closes its doors for good, this commemorative shirt serves as a way to preserve its spirit and carry it forward through the ages.
