First day of School

The "First Day of School" project is an educational and social initiative promoted by FC Lugano, the Lugano home football team, which aims to bring children closer to sport and its fundamental values through a direct, concrete and shared experience.

Starting in September 2025, the project has seen the involvement of all 27 first year of elementary school classes in Lugano, with the active participation of Lugano FC’s First Team players who accompanied the schoolchildren during their Physical Education lessons.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The "First Day of School" project was launched with the objective of transmitting, from the very first years of school, the positive values of sport in general and of football in particular:

  • respect for rules and other people
  • team spirit and collaboration
  • fair play
  • inclusion
  • importance of movement and an active lifestyle

The project has been approved by the Ticino Department of Education, Culture and Sport (DECS) and the Municipality of Lugano, and has been developed in collaboration with the Lugano School Institute, in full respect of the educational and school context.

HOW THE ACTIVITY IS CARRIED ON

Each football match lasts about 45 minutes under the guidance of FC Lugano “black and white” players (the Bianconeri) together with the Physical Education teachers.

The proposed activities are inspired by the methods of the Club’s own Football School and include:

  • games that exercise the motor system and team games
  • coordination and collaboration exercises
  • activities designed to get all the children involved, without distinction

The approach is playful and educational, with the objective of creating a time for sharing, fun and learning through movement.

A CONCRETE AWARD FOR EACH CHILD

On completing this experience, each child will receive a special medal from FC Lugano, bearing a QR code which gives access to several dedicated opportunities:

  • an official Lugano First Team shirt
  • FC Lugano Membership valid for the entire season
  • four tickets to attend a match with the family at Cornaredo Stadium

This symbolic but concrete gesture is aimed to strengthen the child’s bond with FC Lugano’s black and white colours and to create an early link to the Club’s life.

FC LUGANO AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

With its “First day of School” project, FC Lugano confirms its commitment to the social role that a sports Club is called upon to play, by accompanying even the youngest children in a fundamental stage of their growth.

The project is part of a long-term vision aimed at strengthening in a structured manner the link between the Club, schools and the territory. In other words, it is not an isolated initiative, but a “path” designed to be developed and consolidated over the years and having the capability to transmit values and build a sense of belonging.

This is an initiative that focuses on sport and education, with the objective of creating a positive and lasting impact on the community and with the hope that it will be repeated and expanded in the future, in respect of school needs and in collaboration with all the realities involved.
