The weather alert issued for Tuesday over the western Vaud Jura region, of which Yverdon is a part, was no April Fools' joke. The gusts of "bise" reached 70 kilometers per hour at times and undoubtedly affected the match between the local team and Lugano as well.
POSSESSION AND TRANSITIONS TO THE MINIMUMS
The Bianconeri won the contest with merit even though they had to partly distort their game. Ball possession (53%) was one of the lowest of the season. The same was true for the number of passes (428) and corner kicks in favor (only 2).
ONLY ONE SHOT FOR THE OPPONENTS
The total shots were 9 for Lugano and 7 for the opponents. In the goal mirror Koutsias and his teammates kicked nine times, only one shot for the Vaudois a circumstance that in the previous 29 games had happened only against the same Yverdon in Cornaredo and in the 0-0 draw in Sion.
FIRST HOME DEFEAT OF 2025
The statement at the Stade Municipal was not a foregone conclusion. At home in 2025, Tramezzani's team had so far beaten Winterthur (2 times) and St. Gallen and drawn with Lucerne and Servette. The last defeat was in December last year: 0-1 with Sion.
FIFTH OUTDOOR VICTORY
Lugano scored its fifth away win (Basel, Lausanne, Lucerne and Winterthur the predecessors). The victory with the Lions dates back to Jan. 25 (2-3). There have been three draws away from Cornaredo and six defeats.
NINE PENALTIES FOR AND AGAINST
The HCL is the team that has been granted the most penalties so far: 9. But it also holds the record for penalties against, also 9. Lucerne has had 8 pro penalties while Servette and Lausanne 8 against.
GRGIC INFALLIBLE FROM THE PENALTY SPOT
A specialist from the penalty spot was confirmed as Anto Grgic, who made all seven of those he beat this season. He has beaten the goalkeepers of YB, Zurich, Lucerne, Basel, Sion (2 times) and Tuesday Yverdon. In his career there are 25 penalties converted by the Croatian-born midfielder (2 against Lugano when he wore the Sion jersey).
VLADI TWO MONTHS LATER
Shkelqim Vladi returned to goal after the one he scored at home against Sion (3-2) exactly two months ago. He had previously "punched the clock" already against Yverdon and YB. And with Besiktas in the Europa League qualifier. Vladi has missed 12 of his 30 league games so far due to injury. He is, however, approaching last season's haul of 6 goals.
FOURTH ASSIST FOR VALENZUELA
Milton Valenzuela is also returning to form after a troubled start to the season (10 matches missed due to injury). He is on his fourth assist (previous ones against Lucerne, Basel and Winterthur) and thus equaled last year's number of assists. While in his first championship in HCL he had totaled one.
SAIPI: CLEAN SHEET NUMBER 5
Amir Saipi achieved in Yverdon his fifth clean sheet in this league. To which must be added the three in the Conference League and one in the Europa League qualifiers. In Super League the last match with zero was the home match against Lucerne on Feb. 15.
