FC LUGANO-FC LAUSANNE-SPORT WILL NOT BE RIGIOCATED
Club
The Disciplinary Committee of the Swiss Football League has announced that the appeal filed by our club, following the events that occurred during FC Lugano and FC Lausanne-Sport last Sept. 17, has been rejected.
Last Sept. 22, FC Lugano had officially confirmed its appeal, filed at the match in question. The Ticino club denounced "an erroneous use contrary to VAR protocol" and asked for the match to be replayed.
The SFL Disciplinary Committee rejected the appeal and, consequently, the claims made by the club, justifying its decision as follows: "After committing a foul, Lausanne player Karim Sow received a second warning from the referee, synonymous with an expulsion. Given the situation, the referee went to consult the VAR images to check whether the foul in question could constitute a direct expulsion. There is no reason to doubt the referee's statements in this regard. Having ascertained a potential offside situation, the VAR also showed the referee the images related to that incident, and the referee indeed found that the Lugano forward was in an irregular position. The referee then decided to cancel the second yellow card - and thus the red - and allowed play to resume."
In summary, the SFL statement reads, "All matters relating to the evaluation of the foul, its interpretation, its consequences, as well as to any manifest error in refereeing, concern facts that are conclusively decided by the refereeing body, without this Commission having any power of review."
The Swiss Football League indicates that for its bodies this decision is to be considered final.
