After captain Mattia Bottani, it is the turn of coach Mattia Croci-Torti: FC Lugano is happy to announce that the 42-year-old from Ticino will be the coach of Lugano for three more seasons beyond the current one, that is, until the June 30, 2028.
From one leader to another, FC Lugano thus sets the team of the future by betting on a technician who has been able to convince and deserve consideration and trust to the sound of results, placing himself in the attention of the insiders as a modern and highly appreciated technician. An investiture, for Croci-Torti, confirmed at the helm of the team that, starting from the 2026/27 season, will have the honor of leading within the AIL Arena. An important attestation of esteem for him, then, as well as a signal of technical continuity launched by the club: it is with Croci-Torti that the club lays the foundations of its new course, entrusting it to the man who is successfully guiding the current one.
Since taking office at the head of the first team, FC Lugano has won the Swiss Cup in 2022, reached two more finals (2023 and 2024) and climbed the national hierarchies: from fourth place in the 2021/22 season to second last season. Championships experienced as protagonists, resulting in two consecutive years in qualifying for the group stage of Conference League and, in the current season, to the historic goal of the round of 16 scheduled for March.
Sebastian Pelzer, Chief Sports Officer F.C. Lugano SA: "We are happy that Mattia Croci-Torti is staying with us. The length of his new contract is a statement of intent and certifies his identification with FC Lugano. We are very happy to have given him the opportunity to become our head coach in the fall of 2021 and to have embarked on this path with him. He has won us over through his work and charisma."
Nice to have you with us for a long time to come! Best of luck, coach.
