TOWARDS LUCERNE: IN SEARCH OF CONTINUITY IN CORNAREDO

March 6, 2026

After Wednesday evening's 2-1 victory over FC Sion, FC Lugano is back on the pitch. On Saturday 7 March at 6 p.m. at the Cornaredo stadium, the team will face FC Luzern in the 29th round of the Brack Super League.

The midweek win has allowed Mattia Croci-Torti's team to mathematically secure a place in the top six of the table, gaining access to the Championship Round with five games to spare. This is an important milestone that certifies the progress made so far and now opens up the possibility of continuing to collect valuable points in the final phase of the regular season.

The match against Lucerne also comes in a round that features two direct clashes at the top of the table, with FC St. Gallen and FC Basel facing each other and BSC Young Boys and FC Thun set to do battle. This context makes the match at Cornaredo particularly significant in terms of continuing the race for the top positions.

THE
OPPONENT FC Luzern comes to Ticino in seventh place in the league with 33 points, eight points behind FC Sion, which occupies the last place in the Championship Round. Mario Frick's team is coming off a 2-1 home defeat against Young Boys, but still has some hope of finishing in the top six before the end of the regular season.

The previous encounters this season have so far been favourable to Lugano. The last direct confrontation, played on 17 January, ended in a 5-2 victory, while the previous match at Cornaredo – last October – ended 2-0.

CROCI-TORTI: "LUCERNE IS A DANGEROUS TEAM"
After the victory against Sion, Mattia Croci-Torti urged the team to stay focused on one goal at a time: "We have to take it one game at a time. If we start thinking too far ahead, we lose our focus." Looking ahead to Saturday's match, the Bianconeri coach emphasised that Lucerne remains an opponent to be taken very seriously: "They were a team on the rise until a few weeks ago. Now they're coming off two consecutive defeats and played most of their last match with a man down, but they're a team that has always given us trouble. Now we have to think about this game, try to get as many points as possible and, above all, regain our energy, because the team gave a lot against Sion."

In front of their home crowd, another important stage in this season finale will take place, with the aim of building on Wednesday's success and continuing to move up the table.

ALIOSKI CONTINUES HIS RECOVERY
On the injury front, while Claudio Cassano remains sidelined with a cruciate ligament rupture, Ezgjan Alioski continues to make positive progress in his rehabilitation after a problem with his right calf. Daniel Dos Santos will also miss the match against Luzern after receiving his fourth yellow card of the season and serving a suspension.
