Four days on from their victory over St. Gallen, FC Lugano are back in action for their final match before the international break. On Sunday 20 September at 4.30 pm, the bianconeri will be away to FC Lausanne-Sport at the Stade de la Tuilière on matchday 9 of the Brack Super League.
Lugano travel to Romandy as league leaders and remain unbeaten: after eight matches, they have collected 22 points, the result of seven wins and one draw. Wednesday’s 4–1 victory over St. Gallen saw Mattia Croci-Torti’s side extend their lead over second-placed Sion to four points, building on the 2–2 draw against Young Boys and the previous 3–1 away win at Basel.
CONSISTENCY AHEAD OF THE BREAK
The match at La Tuilière will be the bianconeri’s third fixture in eight days, following their two home matches against Young Boys and St. Gallen. Immediately after Wednesday’s victory, Croci-Torti emphasised the need to maintain a level-headed approach despite the excellent start to the season: “It’s only September. We need to keep our feet on the ground, but it’s very important to keep sending a message to the league.”
This approach is accompanied by a desire to involve more and more players from the squad, a point emphasised by the manager himself ahead of the numerous fixtures awaiting Lugano across the league, the Swiss Cup and European competition. The away match in Lausanne brings this first intense run of fixtures to a close: after Sunday, the bianconeri’s next official fixture will in fact be on 10 October at the AIL Arena against FC Luzern.
LAUSANNE’S
CURRENT FORM: Lausanne-Sport go into Matchday 9 in 12th place with 6 points, having recorded one win, three draws and four defeats. The Vaud-based side have scored seven goals and conceded eleven in their first eight matches.
The team led by Luka Elsner, who took charge last summer, is going through a difficult spell: in their last five league matches, they have picked up just one point – a draw away at Thun – whilst losing to Lucerne, Zurich, Vaduz and, in the last round, Servette.
However, the league table does not detract from what the Vaud-based side showed in some of their early matches this season. On matchday three, for example, Lausanne managed to come back from two goals down against Young Boys to secure a 2–2 draw, demonstrating their ability to stay in the game even when the going gets tough.
PREVIOUS
ENCOUNTERS Last season, Lugano and Lausanne-Sport faced each other three times in the league, with the bianconeri remaining unbeaten in all three encounters. Following the 1–1 draw in September at Cornaredo, the match at the Tuilière on 7 December ended goalless, whilst in their most recent encounter, played on 22 February 2026, Lugano ran out 2–1 winners.
So on Sunday, the action resumes at La Tuilière, in an away fixture that will bring the first part of the season to a close before the winter break. Kick-off is at 4.30 pm.
