It was a special day in Caslano for Dereck Moncada and Beckham Castro. The two new attacking signings took part in their first training session in the bianconero kit today, getting to know the squad and the world of FC Lugano for the first time.
At the “Roque Maspoli” Sports Centre, where the team is currently undertaking the first phase of their pre-season preparations, Moncada and Castro trained for the entire session under the guidance of Mattia Croci-Torti.
Before training began, the pair were welcomed by their teammates with the traditional welcome lap, in a cheerful atmosphere that officially marked their arrival in the squad.
For both players, this was their first real taste of action on the pitch in their new kits: Moncada, a very young Honduran attacking winger born in 2007, arrived in Lugano following a spell in Colombia with Internacional de Bogotá; Beckham Castro, a Colombian attacking winger born in 2003, came through the ranks at Millonarios FC and has already made over 100 professional appearances, gaining international experience in the Copa Libertadores as well.
With their arrival in the squad, the bianconeri’s first four summer signings are now all up and running: Joel Bichsel and Felix Gebhardt have in fact been training with the team since the first day of pre-season, whilst Moncada and Castro took part in their first training session today.
Also present were Amir Saipi, Georgios Koutsias and Elias Pihlstrom, who had already rejoined the squad in recent days following their international duties. Hannes Delcroix, however, remains absent, having just returned from the FIFA World Cup with Haiti, which concluded on 25 June following their defeat by Morocco.
Pre-season training will continue over the coming days in Caslano, where the bianconeri will carry on their preparations ahead of their first pre-season fixtures.
