LUGANO WOMEN'S TEAM NARROWLY BEATEN BY KÜSSNACHT

November 16, 2025

The week after having given a hard time to Zurich, the FC Lugano Femminile gave up its weapons to Küssnacht a/R, able to conquer Cornaredo with the minimum waste and to reaffirm its season superiority on the HCL ladies, beaten for the second time in the season after the 4:2 of the summer debut.

The duel valid for the twelfth day of the National League B kicked off with the rain becoming more and more heavy as time passed. With the exception of a brief clearing just before the half-time break, the inclement weather prevailed throughout the entire match. The synthetic ground of Field F, already fast in itself, becomes more and more fast, unfavourable to the technique present in the local group.

The first half did not offer much to the spectators present. Thus, the first episode to be noted comes at the quarter-hour mark and is a clash of play with an unnatural twisting of Eleonora Castellani's knee, whose agonising screams of pain echoed on the sides of the city's Skate Park. Fortunately for the HCL full-back, treatment was immediate and after four lapses of breathlessness, she returned to her position with her usual diligence.

Then, with the hosts strangely struggling to create an opportunity for themselves, it was Svittesi who attempted a couple of shots. First, Vivienna Steiner's free-kick from a sidereal distance ended well wide of the goal. Then, a left-footed shot by Mara Studer was safely caught by Chiara Audrino. After the only yellow card of the match had been given to Claudia Lourenço, the penultimate minute of the half coincided with a great combination on the three-quarter line by the Confederates, culminating with an equally excellent winning conclusion at the crossbar by Silja Ulrich, who gave the match a new face.

During the second half, coach Andrea Antonelli made a couple of tactical changes among the eleven players on the pitch. At first, after seven minutes, he changed the positions of Mathilda Andreoli and Lucrezia Sasso, with the former playing as a centre forward and the latter as an offensive outside player. After the latter had been replaced by central defender Livia Russo, another change was made, with Melissa Colombo moved up front as an attacking reference. The main objective is to exploit the height and consequent backs for the teammates of #22.

In this second period the game was played almost exclusively in the visiting half of the field, but the chances to even the score were limited to a few unconvincing proposals or bricked by the svittese rearguard. While Anna Crapanzano's right-footed shot was weak and Colombo's free-kick (won with stubbornness by the usual elusive Aline Oliva) rejected by the barrier, on the opposite side two shivers ran down the backs of the subcenerine. In the 66th minute, a lob from Lourenço was rebounded by the crossbar, while in the 84th minute a cross from Noemi Mazza hit the top of the post. In between, a right-footer by Lourenço herself went wide not by much.

"Compared to the last outings, we had some difficulties in creating chances for ourselves. Our opponents are a solid, square team. However, I thought something more could have been done, especially in the first half. In the second half, we raised our centre of gravity, but there was no way we could get the score back. The rain? It was a factor for both us and them. Maybe they felt it less, given their physical size. As for us, we lacked the finishing touch. One change made? I had the impression that the team was not suffering. Of course, we struggled in the last few metres, but we were leading the game and it didn't seem right to me to change faces. Solothurn? Let's cancel this match and from tomorrow we think about the next opponent, against whom nothing will be taken for granted. Beyond the difficulties in the last metres, with this intensity and concentration we can say ours", the comment after the game of the HCL team leader Andrea Antonelli.

At 6 pm of Saturday the 22nd of November 2025, the championship of the FC Lugano Femminile - still at the eighth rank with 13 points - will continue. The team will be committed at the Stadion FCS, the home of the tail end Soletta, already defeated at the end of August in the Canton Ticino with a clear result of 5:2.
