From 1951 to 2026, the Stadio Comunale di Cornaredo was home to FC Lugano and generations of bianconeri supporters. To celebrate the move to the new AIL Arena and commemorate 75 years at Cornaredo, the Club presents ‘A Piece of History’, a limited-edition frame comprising seventy-five numbered copies.
Each frame contains an original fragment of the goal net used during FC Lugano’s last official match at Cornaredo, on 17 May 2026 against FC Basel 1893. The match ended in a 4–0 victory for the bianconeri, thanks to a brace from Kevin Behrens and goals from Renato Steffen and Georgios Koutsias. This victory mathematically secured third place in the 2025/26 season and qualification for European competitions, lending further significance to the final match played at Cornaredo.
75 NUMBERED
PIECES At the end of the match, the goal net was removed and divided into 75 original pieces, one for each year of the stadium’s existence. Each piece was then framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, attesting to its provenance.
The commemorative frame was officially presented by Vice-Chairman and CEO Martin Blaser during the pre-season press conference on 15 July. Blaser himself also announced that he had personally purchased a frame, emphasising the symbolic value of the initiative.
Another example of the framed net was also presented to Eugenio Jelmini during the pre-match build-up to the FC Lugano v FC Vaduz fixture, the league opener at the new AIL Arena. The honour celebrated Jelmini’s contribution to the creation of the Sports and Events Centre and his long-standing association with FC Lugano.
