This afternoon, Saturday 20 June, the AIL Arena hosted the finals of the Swiss Senior Cup for the 30+, 40+ and 50+ age groups, welcoming teams from various regions of the country for a day dedicated to football, passion and the joy of sharing this sport.
Following the match between Switzerland and Malta on 5 June, which counted towards qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, the new stadium thus hosted the second sporting event in its history, confirming its status as a venue open to national events and occasions capable of engaging the local community.
THREE FINALS
The programme kicked off at 1.30 pm with the 50+ final between FC Bioggio and FC Perly-Certoux, played over two 35-minute halves. After a 2–2 draw at the end of normal time, the Geneva-based side prevailed on penalties with an aggregate score of 7–8.
At 15:30, it was the turn of the 40+ final, in which FC Uzwil-Henau Grp. and Atletico Lugano 1966 Football Club contested the national title, again over two 35-minute halves. After a 0–0 draw at full-time, the Ticino side came out on top in the penalty shoot-out with a score of 5–6.
The day was rounded off by the 30+ final between FC Lausanne-Sport and FC Red Star ZH, played at 17:30 over two 40-minute halves and won by Lausanne with a score of 3-1.
PASSION, FAMILIES AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
In the stands at the AIL Arena, the finalist teams were joined by their families, friends and supporters, creating an atmosphere of shared enthusiasm that made the day truly special. For the new stadium, it was yet another opportunity to experience football in a broader context, bringing together competition, the local area and the community.
The Club congratulates all the participating teams and the winners of the three finals, and thanks the organisers, staff and spectators for helping to make it a memorable day at the new AIL Arena.
TOWARDS THE BIANCONERI’S
DEBUT The journey of the bianconeri’s new home will now continue over the coming weeks, with a historic event already on the horizon: on Thursday 23 July at 8.30 pm, the AIL Arena will host FC Lugano’s debut at the new stadium, for the first leg of the UEFA Conference League Q2 tie against KF Dukagjini from Kosovo.
