FC Lugano Femminile have come to the end of a difficult ‘English week’, losing 4–2 (1–1) to Étoile Carouge at the Stade de la Fontenette.
Despite the team’s current circumstances – in the Canton of Geneva, manager Andrea Antonelli had only four substitutes available (two of whom were unable to play due to injury) – those who took to the pitch put in an excellent performance, giving their all from the first to the last minute of the match. At the moment, unfortunately, they are unable to pick up any points, despite consistently positive performances. We need, however, to identify the reasons behind this particular situation. That said, the girls – whose attitude and commitment are beyond reproach – really cannot be faulted in any way.
As for the match, it was the bianconeri who opened the scoring, with Mathilda Andreoli finding the net after just five minutes. A hat-trick from Léa Mega – interspersed with the goal that temporarily and decisively turned the score around at the start of the second half – then secured victory for the Romandy side. Captain Melissa Colombo’s second goal of the evening was ultimately just a consolation.
Following this fourth defeat of the season, FC Lugano Femminile remain in eleventh and penultimate place in the table on 4 points. The next opportunity to boost their points tally will come on Saturday 19 September 2026 at 7.00 pm at the Al Maglio Sports Centre in Canobbio, where they will host Winterthur from Zurich.
As usual, the manager of the Sottocenerine side, Andrea Antonelli, gives his thoughts on this weekend’s fixture: “It sounds strange to say, but I’m really pleased with the girls. They can’t and won’t do any more than this. That’s how I feel at the moment. We must try to keep working together consistently, just as we’re doing. Even here in Carouge we conceded a penalty (which was then saved by Chiara Audrino), making it the third in six matches. I know and can see that the squad is giving it their all. Winterthur? They’re a very physical side, but at last we’ll have a week to prepare, during which we’ll be able to get a few players back who will certainly be a great asset to the team.”
