FC Lugano wishes to inform supporters that, following recent guidelines issued by UEFA, it will be installing a safe standing area in the Curva Nord (Sector B3) and the Away End (Sector E) of the AIL Arena over the coming weeks.
UEFA has in fact recently authorised Swiss clubs competing in European competitions to play their home matches in UEFA Club Competitions even where standing areas are present, thereby lifting the previous requirement to use seated areas exclusively.
In light of this significant development, FC Lugano has decided to adopt a permanent solution that will avoid the costs and logistical burdens associated with setting up and dismantling seats for international matches.
The project, subject to authorisation from the relevant authorities and the Swiss Football League – which has, moreover, recommended its implementation – involves the installation of a ‘safe standing’ system consisting of barriers with integrated seats. This system will allow the relevant sections to be used in both seated and standing configurations, in full compliance with current regulations. This adaptation also improves the stadium’s operational efficiency and offers a modern, safe solution that meets international standards.
Once the works are complete, subject to final confirmation by the relevant authorities, the capacities of the two sections will be as follows: Section B3 (North Stand): 423 seated places or 823 standing places;
Sector E (Away End): 600 seats or 900 standing places.
