FC Lugano’s Over-40s continue to make their mark on the national stage. On Saturday 27 September, in the round of 16 of the Swiss Cup, the bianconeri secured a 3–1 away victory over SV Würenlos, thereby booking their place in the quarter-finals.
The match got off to a difficult start in the first half, which ended with the home side in the lead thanks to a goal from Martin Keller in the 20th minute. In the second half, however, Lugano responded with character: a change in formation and greater concentration enabled them to turn the match around. Simone Marchio was the star of the show, scoring a brace in the 52nd and 65th minutes. The third and final goal came in the 70th minute from Ivo Wenger, who sealed the 3-1 victory.
For the side coached by Paolo Brenna and Ivo Wenger himself, this is another night to remember in a campaign that has already seen them reach the last eight of the competition. This success follows on from the prestigious triumph achieved in 2023, when FC Lugano’s Over-40s were crowned Swiss Cup champions after beating FC Choulex in the final.
