The Brack Super League continues unabated and presents FC Lugano with another challenging fixture. Just four days after their home draw against Servette, the Bianconeri will return to the pitch on Sunday 15 February at 4.30 p.m. at St. Jakob-Park, where they will face reigning champions FC Basel on matchday 25 of the league.
Mattia Croci-Torti's side heads to the Rhine after three consecutive draws that have slowed their run, while keeping the team at the top of the table. Lugano, currently third, are three points ahead of Basel and can count on favourable results earlier in the season: this season, the Bianconeri have already beaten the Rossoblù twice, winning 3-1 at Cornaredo and 1-0 at St. Jakob-Park.
For their part, the hosts come into the match after a 2-0 defeat at Sion in midweek. Stephan Lichtsteiner's side are enjoying a season similar to that of their Ticino rivals, with good results keeping them in the upper echelons of the table.
It therefore promises to be a very open contest between two teams close to each other in the table and sharing a similar path in the current championship, in a match in which every moment could prove decisive.
After Wednesday evening's draw against Servette, Croci-Torti has already set his sights on the challenge, emphasising that the goal is to regain energy and find solutions, especially in terms of the condition of the defensive players, without looking for excuses: a pragmatic approach to best tackle a challenging away game like the one in Basel.
MARQUES AND DELCROIX ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY
On the injury front, Martim Marques and Hannes Delcroix have resumed individual work on the pitch and are expected to be gradually reintegrated into the squad during the coming week.
TRAVEL TO BASEL IN A MORE ECO-FRIENDLY WAY
For the trip to St. Jakob Park, Bianconeri fans can take advantage of the brand new national carpooling platform. This initiative allows fans to share their journey with other supporters, reduce emissions and enjoy the build-up to the match in good company.
