Mattia Croci-Torti is savouring FC Lugano’s comeback victory away at Winterthur. A 4–2 win that came after a difficult start and was built on character, quality and determination.
A TEAM REACTION
“A month ago, we’d probably have lost a match like this,” commented the bianconeri manager. “Today, however, our fitness, confidence and mindset are completely different. I saw it during the week: the team were in good form and hungry for victory. Even after going 4–2 up, we kept attacking, looking for a fifth goal – a sign that the fear of losing is fading. I just have to say well done and thank you to the lads; they were exceptional.”
SPIRIT AND PLAY
Croci-Torti highlighted the team’s ability to bounce back after falling behind: “In the first half we’d already created plenty, but conceding a goal like that and then immediately letting in a second could have broken us. Instead, we kept our heads, carried on playing, and our response came through confidence and the desire to build up play. I saw some quality moves that I haven’t seen for a long time.”
SEVEN POINTS AND A SOLID FOUNDATION
The manager finally linked the result in Winterthur to the team’s run of form over the past few weeks: “After the St. Gallen match, I’d asked the team to pick up seven points from the next three games to send a message to the league. We’ve managed it. We’re now six points off the top and we must continue on this path. The match against Zurich, after the break, will be a crucial fixture and we’ll have to approach it with the same hunger we showed today.”
