With the start of the new season at the AIL Arena, FC Lugano is providing fans with a comprehensive guide containing all the information they need to get to the stadium on match days.
From train and bus connections to getting there on foot or by bike, right through to shared mobility services and Uber: all the latest information will be available at any time at fclugano.com/how-to-get-to-the-ail-arena.
Below you’ll find all the useful information you need to plan your journey to the AIL Arena.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT INCLUDED IN YOUR TICKET
Your match ticket and season ticket entitle you to free travel on public transport operated by the Arcobaleno fare network in Ticino and Moesano for the entire match day.
To use the service, simply show your match ticket or season ticket when asked.
BUS
The available routes vary depending on the day of the match.
WEEKEND MATCHES
On Saturdays and Sundays, the AIL Arena is served by the following TPL routes:
- Line 3: connects the city centre with the northern area. Stop to alight at: Lugano Pista Ghiaccio, located a few minutes’ walk from the AIL Arena.
- Line 4: connects Lugano Centre with Canobbio and Comano, passing through the Cornaredo district. Stop to alight at: Lugano Gerra.
- Line 6: connects Lugano railway station with Piano Stampa, passing in front of the AIL Arena. Stop to alight at: Lugano via Ciani.
- Line 7: connects Pregassona with Lugano Centro, passing through the Cornaredo district. Stop to alight at: Lugano Gerra.
WEEKDAY
SERVICES On weekdays, in addition to TPL lines 3, 4, 6 and 7, the following services are also available:
- ARL Line 19: connects Cornaredo with Villa Luganese. Stop: Lugano Stadio.
- ARL Line 441: connects Lugano Centre with Lamone-Cadempino. Stop: Lugano Gerra.
- ARL line 462: connects Lugano Centro with Carnago Arbustello. Stop: Lugano Gerra.
- PostBus route 420: connects Cornaredo with Manno-Suglio and Bioggio Molinazzo. Stop: Lugano Cornaredo.
Lines 19, 420, 441 and 462 do not run after 7.00 pm or at weekends. Before setting off, we recommend checking timetables and connections via the SBB website or app.
DETOURS IN THE EVENT OF PARADES
On the occasion of certain matches, security measures may result in the temporary closure of Via Trevano and consequent changes to bus routes.
Please note: on match days against FC Basel 1893, BSC Young Boys and FC Zurich, Via Trevano is closed to traffic. TPL lines 4, 6 and 7, and lines 420, 441 and 462 are therefore diverted via Via Ciani, where replacement stops are provided.
Similar measures may also be implemented for other matches, in accordance with the authorities’ instructions. Diversions and closure times may vary from one match to another. Supporters are therefore advised to check real-time updates before setting off.
BY TRAIN
Lugano lies on the Gotthard railway line and is connected to Chiasso and Milan, as well as to Bellinzona, Zurich, Lucerne and Basel.
From Lugano FFS station, you can travel directly to the AIL Arena on TPL bus routes 4 and 6.
Alternatively, the TPL funicular runs every five minutes between the station and Piazza Cioccaro in the centre of Lugano. From there, you can continue by bus or walk to the Arena.
ON FOOT
The AIL Arena is situated about two kilometres from the centre of Lugano and can be reached on foot in around 30 minutes.
The recommended route starts from Via Pretorio and continues along Corso Pestalozzi, Viale Carlo Cattaneo and Viale Cassarate, before turning onto Via Giacomo e Filippo Ciani and reaching the AIL Arena from the east side of the venue.
BY BIKE AND WITH PUBLIBIKE
Lugano’s cycle network comprises around 39 kilometres of cycle routes linking the city’s main neighbourhoods.
The PubliBike service also allows you to hire traditional and electric bikes, 24 hours a day, at one of the stations in the Sottoceneri area.
The recommended station is Via Ciani, situated next to the AIL Arena, which can be used both before and after the match.
WITH UBER
On match days, a dedicated Uber pick-up and drop-off point is available, located on Via Giacomo e Filippo Ciani, next to the AIL Arena.
This point allows passengers to get in and out of vehicles within a designated area, thereby avoiding the roads affected by the main traffic restrictions.
Vouchers and promotions valid for individual matches are announced via newsletters sent to ticket holders.
CARPOOLING
Through the StadionGO platform, developed in collaboration with the Swiss Football League, fans can search for or offer a lift to home and away matches.
Carpooling allows people to share their journey, reducing costs, traffic and emissions associated with travel.
BY CAR
: We advise against travelling by private car due to the limited availability of parking spaces near the AIL Arena.
For those arriving by car, the recommended motorway exit is Lugano Nord. From the A2 motorway, take the Vedeggio-Cassarate Tunnel and, upon exiting, follow the signs for Via Sonvico and the AIL Arena.
If you’re coming from the south, you can also take the Lugano Sud exit, continuing towards the city centre, driving along the lake and then following Viale Cassarate towards Cornaredo.
There are around 790 paid parking spaces available in the areas adjacent to the AIL Arena:
Resega: 410 spaces;
Coop car park: 380 spaces.
Availability cannot be guaranteed. We therefore recommend arriving well in advance and following the instructions of the staff on site.
