On 28 July 1908, at the Birreria della Posta, Football Club Lugano was founded. Ernesto Corsini was elected as the first president, and Domenico Bernardoni as the first captain. A large field near the lake, in the Campo Marzio area, was chosen as the club’s ground; it would remain the club’s home for almost half a century.
118 years have passed since that day. It has been a long journey, accompanied by generations of players, coaches, officials, staff and supporters, and marked by three national titles, won in 1938, 1941 and 1949, and four Swiss Cups, lifted in 1931, 1968, 1993 and 2022. These achievements are complemented by the memorable European nights, promotions and comebacks that have shaped the club’s history.
From Campo Marzio to Cornaredo, which opened in 1951, right through to the AIL Arena: in 2026, FC Lugano began a new chapter in its history, without forgetting the roots and the bond that have always united the club with the city and the region.
118 years of history, passion and a sense of belonging. And so many pages still to be written.
Happy birthday, FC Lugano!
