FC Lugano has announced the permanent transfer of Amir Saipi to Club Deportivo Castellón, a team in the Spanish Segunda División. This brings to an end, after five seasons (and a total of 180 appearances), a journey full of excitement, crowned by victory in the 2022 Swiss Cup and a run to the round of 16 in the UEFA Conference League during the 2024/25 season.
Having joined the bianconeri in the summer of 2021, Amir has grown alongside the Club, tackling every challenge with great determination. Day after day, he earned the trust of the coaching staff, his teammates and the fans, becoming one of the team’s most recognisable figures and leaving a lasting mark within the dressing room and the bianconeri family.
His name will remain inextricably linked to one of the finest chapters in FC Lugano’s recent history: the aforementioned triumph in the 2022 Swiss Cup. In the semi-final at Cornaredo against Lucerne and then in the final in Bern against St. Gallen, his saves were decisive in bringing the trophy back to Ticino after almost thirty years. An unforgettable journey, which Amir helped to turn into a memory etched in the hearts of all bianconeri supporters.
A new and exciting challenge now lies ahead for Saipi in Spanish football. It is time to say goodbye, in the knowledge that our paths may diverge, but that certain bonds will endure.
FC Lugano would like to thank Amir Saipi for his commitment, professionalism and the shared moments over the past five years, and wishes him all the best in both his professional and personal life.
