The eighth episode of “11 volte Cornaredo” is now online – the series in which FC Lugano looks back at some of the most significant moments experienced at the club’s historic stadium.
The star of the new episode is Antoine Rey, captain of the team that brought Lugano back to the Super League in 2015 after a 13-year wait. This achievement was mathematically secured on 25 May in Bienne, with a 2–0 victory courtesy of goals from Guarino and Urbano, and celebrated a few days later at Cornaredo, following the final home match against Wohlen.
In his account, Rey reflects on the emotions of those days: the tension of that decisive away match, the joy shared with the many bianconeri supporters present in Bienne, and the return to Cornaredo, where the team was greeted with chants, smoke bombs and celebrations.
For the former captain, that promotion represents one of the key milestones in the club’s recent history. Without that return to the top flight, he explains, FC Lugano’s subsequent journey would also have been different. It was a moment experienced with pride, a sense of responsibility and a deep bond with a group that he still refers to today as the ‘old Bianconeri heart’.
In this story, Cornaredo remains the place of celebration and shared joy. It was the stadium where Lugano were finally able to celebrate their return to the Super League in front of their own fans, turning a promotion secured away from home into a collective memory.
